Decoration Ideas:
My Church (Primary)

MAKE A CHURCH: Use a cardboard
box with flaps; any size box you like (big ones like appliance boxes
are lots of fun!). To make the church:
-
Cut off all four flaps from the bottom,
set the box down upright, and open all the upper flaps.
-
Tape the two longer flaps to the
top flaps of the same size, overlapping them by three inches lengthwise,
and thus extending the width of the upper flaps.
-
Bring together the edges of the extended
flaps so that they meet to form the steep roof; tape them together
with duct tape along the ridge.
-
Pull up the shorter flaps and likewise
extend them by overlapping and taping the shorter cutoff flaps to
them.
-
Hold one of the shorter flaps upright
against the roof; draw along the edge of both pitches of the roof
to make an inverted V-outline on the end flap. Cut along the
lines of the V. Do the same on the other side.
-
Tape the edges of the roof to the
V-shaped flaps.
-
Using a bread knife, completely cut
out a doorway and windows as shown. Make the cutout openings
large to let in lots of light.
-
Spray-paint the outside of the church
or cover it with stone-patterned contact paper.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT MY CHURCH: Make
a large drawing of a church on posterboard or butcher paper. Here
are some suggestions:
-
Photocopy a simple line drawing,
such as the one below, onto a transparency.
-
Using an overhead projector, project
the image onto your posterboard or butcher paper--adjust the distance
to get the size you want.
-
Trace it with pencil or markers.
-
OPTIONAL: Add details with
crayons, markers, or chalk (if you use chalk, spray the finished product
with hair spray or spray lacquer so that it won't rub off).
If you use a plain line drawing of a
church, you can have the children in your class write things that they
like about their church on sticky notes and fill up the outline--use red
or gray ones for a "brick" effect.
