Memory Verse: "I will come back and take you to be with me." John 14:3, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - Materials needed: Building blocks Stuffed animals OR animal figures WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children build a castle home with you in the corner of the room. There are no plans that have to be followed. Whatever a child adds is accepted as part of the structure. When all the blocks are used up, talk about what a grand magnificent home it has turned out to be. Select some stuffed animals or animal figures to add as pets. In our Bible story today we're going to talk about the beautiful home Jesus is preparing for us with Him. Wait until you hear about the pets we'll have in that home. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - HEAVENLY HIKE Materials needed: Basket or bowl of fruit Bowl of dirty water Dead branch with no leaves or dead leaves Wheelchair or crutches or box of band aids Bible story book with pictures of bible heroes Bible WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Set the items around the room at different locations. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children take a walk with you and discover things that will be different and better in Heaven. 1. Basket of fruit - The fruit we will eat in Heaven will help us live forever. 2. Bowl of dirty water - The water we drink will be crystal clear and give us good health. 3. Dead branch - All the plants, trees, flowers and vegetation will grow and stay beautiful all the time. 4. Wheelchair or crutches or band aids - There will not be any sickness or death in Heaven. We will be able to run and play, hear and see and feel good all the time. 5. Bible story book - We won't just read about our Bible friends, we will meet and talk with them face to face. 6. Bible - Best of all we will be with Jesus whenever we want. We can touch Him and talk to Him and listen to Him all the time. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -TREE OF LIFE MEMORY VERSE Materials needed: Colored xerox paper (red, purple, yellow, orange, green) Brown and green construction paper Scissors Glue or glue sticks Markers Bible 1 sheet of white card stock paper for each child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make each child each of the following fruits on the appropriate color of paper. Cut them out to be placed on a tree. 1. Red - cherries (On the cherries print the words, I will) 2. Purple - grapes (On the grapes print the words, come back) 3. Yellow - banana (On the bananas print the words, and take you) 4. Orange - orange (On the oranges print the words, to be) 5. Green - apple (On the apples print the words, with me) Also cut out a brown trunk for each child from the brown construction paper and a green tree top from the green construction paper. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Repeat it several times together. Give each child the parts of the tree to glue onto their piece of white card stock paper. As you repeat the parts of the memory verse give the children the various fruits to glue on their trees. Talk about the Tree of Life and how it will have 12 different kinds of fruits on it. Review the memory verse by pointing to the different fruits. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - WHEN I GET TO HEAVEN GAME Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children sit in a circle on the floor. Begin by saying, "When I get to heaven I want to.........(add something like see Jesus)". The child to your right says, "When Ms. _______gets to heaven she wants to (they say what you just stated) and I want to (they add what they want to do). The child to their right says, "When Ms.______-gets to heaven she wants to____________and "Johnny" wants to__________and I want to (they add what they want to do). This continues all the way around the circle until it gets back to you. Other children in the circle can help in the remembering process as the game continues going around.
