******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, December 16, 2,000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: November 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, JESUS' WORK IN HEAVEN ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Jesus forgives our mistakes. Memory Verse: "God will bring every deed into judgment." Eccl. 12:14. NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - FORGIVENESS OBJECT LESSON Materials needed: Black sticky-back felt Scissors White robe (choir robe, graduation robe, bath robe etc.) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the black sticky-back felt into small quarter-size pieces. (They do not have to be perfectly round) Cut enough for each child to have 4-5 pieces. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Talk with the children about the sins we do each day. Each time a sin is mentioned have them peel off the paper and place a piece of black felt somewhere on their clothing. Tell them the black felt represents dirt. When they have 4-5 black spots on their clothing, ask them if they would want to go out somewhere covered with dirty spots. Mommies clean dirty spots off our clothes with soap and detergent in the washing machine. Do our clothes stay clean, or do new dirty spots come? Jesus knows we have sins in our lives that are like dirty spots on clothes. We can try to get rid of our sins by ourselves, but more will come. That is why He gives us something different to wear that covers up our sins. It is called His life of goodness. (Take turns putting the white robe on each child as you talk.) Because Jesus never sinned and He died for our sins, He wears clothes that are perfect and never have dirty spots on them. When we ask Jesus to forgive us, He covers us up with his perfect wonderfully clean clothes. When His clothes cover you, you don't see the dirty spots, do you? In our Bible story today we will talk more about Jesus' forgiveness. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - WINNING THE PRIZE Materials needed: 2' X 4' board Yarn Several appliance boxes (large enough for children to crawl through) Basket (filled with prizes; religious nature like little Jesus books, bookmarks, stickers, etc.) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Set up a simple obstacle course. 1. 2' X 4' board - children walk across without falling off 2. Yarn - make a maze winding the yarn in and out and around. Children begin at one end and follow the path with their feet to the other end. 3. Boxes - Cut ends out and tape together for children to crawl through. At the end of the obstacle course put the basket of prizes. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children if they know what an obstacle course is. It's a series of activities and challenges you do to see if you can get to the end. What is usually at the end of an obstacle course? A prize. Show each child what is expected by completing the obstacle course yourself. Then begin each child on it. After they have obtained the prize and have returned to their seats discuss the following: 1. Paul is going to die in our story today. But he says he knows he has won the prize. Do you know what prize he is talking about? 2. Living down on this earth with Satan is like the obstacle course we did this morning. Satan wants us to mess up, do lots of sins and give up, because he does not want us to get the prize. 3. What is the prize? The prize is getting to be with Jesus forever. Paul really looked forward to being with Jesus forever. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE RECORD BOOK Materials needed: Pencils (one brand new one for each child) Yarn Hole punch 8 pieces of plain white paper for each child (4" X 6") Construction paper (one sheet for each child) Stapler Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each child's pencil print the words of the memory verse in a vertical fashion down the side. Cut each child a piece of yarn 12" in length. On each child's eight pieces of plain paper print one of the memory verse words, one word to a paper including the text. Use markers so the words stand out. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Help the children assemble a memory verse record book. 1. Give them their 8 sheets of paper with the memory verse words on them. Help them choose a construction paper cover. Cut the construction paper in half and fold together to make the cover. 2. Put the memory verse sheets in correct order and help the child staple them into the construction paper cover. Punch a hole in the top left-hand corner. 3. Take one end of the yarn and tie it in the hole you just punched. Tie the other end around the eraser end of the pencil. 4. Have each child make a pencil scratch mark on each white page of their book. 5. Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Talk about how God erases our sins as soon as we ask forgiveness for them. Encourage the children to take their books home and erase the pencil mark they have made each day as they pray and ask for forgiveness. Have them bring their books back next week to show you. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - JUDGEMENT BOOK ROLE-PLAY Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary.
