******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, November 4, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: September 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, A GREAT BONFIRE ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Jesus will guide us to choose only good things to listen to and watch. Memory Verse: "Whatever is noble,...think about such things." Phil. 4:8, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - POWER PLAY Materials needed: Hand can opener Electric can opener Hand pencil sharpener Electric pencil sharpener Hand stapler Electric stapler Hand-held screw driver Electric screw driver 2 pencils 2 unopened cans 2 sheets of paper 1 board 2 screws WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Assemble the materials together where they are viewed easily by the whole group. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Call two volunteers forward. Get one child started opening the can with the hand-held can opener and the other child opening the can with the electric opener. (Make sure the can lids are the same size.) Ask the remaining children to predict which child has more power for the job. Select two different volunteers and repeat the procedure with the hand-held pencil sharpener and the electric pencil sharpener. Again ask the remaining children to predict which child has more power for the job. Finish doing the stapler and screwdriver examples in the same way. The electric tools remind me of God's power. It is always better than man's power. In our Bible story today people learn that God's miracles are more powerful than man's magic. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE PROFILE Materials needed: Lamp OR overhead projector Blank wall Sheets of plain white paper (poster board size; one for each child) Pencils Crayons Tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On the top of each child's paper write the memory verse across the top leaving out the vowels. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Be sure and explain that noble means, excellent, great or the very best. We are to put the very best things into our heads and hearts. Have each child take turns sitting in a chair sideways next to the blank wall. Tape their paper right next to their head on the wall. Shine the lamp or overhead so that it creates a shadow of their side profile on their paper. Trace their profile with a pencil. Have them color their head, add hair etc. Show them how to add the vowels in the correct blanks to fill in the verse. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - TRASH IT GAME Materials needed: Medium-size Nerf ball (Or any other cheap ball you don't mind writing on) Trash can (large enough for the Nerf ball to fit inside) Permanent marker Masking tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Since we can't build a bonfire in the room explain to the children that we will throw in the trash things we want Jesus to keep out of our minds that are not noble, great or very good. Lay a piece of masking tape on the floor. Place the trash can about 8-10 feet from the masking tape. Have the children stand behind the masking tape. Encourage them to think of things Jesus wants to help them keep out of their heads. Write the suggestions on the ball and give each child a turn to "trash" the ball after each idea. (Naughty words people say; bad stories about people doing naughties; pictures showing people doing naughties; TV or video programs that show people doing naughties;) ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE SONG Materials needed: Piano player OR cassette recorder Music to the tune of Are You Sleeping WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Practice singing the memory verse to the tune of Are You Sleeping. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children learn the memory verse to the tune of Are You Sleeping. The Primary memory verse is used in this activity.
