Memory Verse: "We will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15, NIV *******THE AUTHOR OF THIS SUPPLEMENT HAS CHANGED THE AIM. AT THIS AGE KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE THE MATURITY TO CHOOSE AND REJECT OTHER CHILDREN BASED ON THEIR ABILITY TO REFLECT JESUS.************************ GETTING THEIR ATTENTION -WEAKEST TO STRONGEST Materials needed: Enough of the following to wrap around a Kindergarten child sitting in a chair and tie a knot in: Sewing thread Embroidery thread Yarn Cord Rope Chain Belt/or piece of leather Shoestring WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children the "binding materials." Pair them in partners. (Double up and have extra "binding" materials so each pair of children have something to tie the other one up with.) Have one child sit in a chair while the other child ties them in the chair with the "binding" material you give them. Talk about the weakness and strength of the different materials. Have each bound child try to break free. If time allows you can have them switch places. In our Bible story today we will talk about a very strong man who was also very weak. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -BIBLE STORY CASSETTE Materials needed: Cassette and tape recorder Script (given below) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Mark your Bible story as to where the following script lines should be inserted that the children will be speaking into the recorder. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Explain to the children that they are going to make a Bible story tape. You will tell the story and when you get to a part of the story where someone is speaking, you will pause the tape recorder, point to a child and tell them what to say. Then release the pause and have them repeat what you said into the recorder. Continue in this manner until the story is finished. Play back the story for the children to enjoy listening to. SCRIPT: 1. When you get to the place where the angel is telling Manoah's wife she will have a baby, have a child say, "You will have a son. Be careful what you eat and drink. God has a special job for this boy." 2. When you get to the place where Samson begins to visit the Philistine girls, have a child say, "I want to marry this girl. I don't care whether she worships God or not." 3. When you get to the place where Samson gets revenge on the Philistines for stealing his wife, have a child say,"This will teach them to steal something of mine!" 4. When you get to the place where Samson marries Delilah, have a child say, "Delilah, we will give you lots of money if you will find out what makes Samson so strong." 5. When you get to the place where Samson finally tells his secret say, "If my hair is cut I will lose all my strength." 6. When you get to the place where the Philistines come to get Samson have a child say, "Samson, wake up! Wake up! The Philistines are here to get you." 7. When you get to the place where the Philistines are at the big party and they bring Samson out, have all the children say, "Look at Samson, mighty man Samson. Chained up! Ho! Ho! Ho!" 8. When you get to the place where Samson prays for God's help once more have a child say, "Dear God I am sorry. Please forgive me. Give me strength one more time." Depending on the size of the group, script parts can be added or taken away so everyone has an opportunity to participate. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE SONG Materials needed: Cassette recorder and tape OR piano player Music to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary unless you need to pre-record the song several times onto a cassette tape. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Teach them to sing the verse with the extra words to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. We will serve the Lord all throughout the day All our friends will see dear Jesus In what we do and say ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - HELLO MY NAME IS Materials needed: Plastic cover name badges (Type worn at conferences and workshops) Markers Small stickers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Draw a rectangle on the front and back of the white part of the name badge for each child. This is to give them a boundary to write their name in so it doesn't end up all across the badge. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children, "When people meet you and become your friends who do you tell them you are?" Each child should tell you their name. Sometimes people remember our names, but sometimes they don't. Did you know that even if they forget your name, they usually don't forget what you say and do? If you are kind and polite, they remember that. If you are rude and disrespectful, they remember that. We should be the kind of friend that reminds other people of Jesus. When they see us, we want them to see Jesus." Give each child a name badge. Have them write their name in the rectangle on one side and Jesus' name in the rectangle on the other side. Slip the name part of the badge in-between the front and back of the plastic cover. Decorate the front of the plastic cover with little stickers, but don't cover up the name. Show the children how to turn the name part around and show Jesus' name through the plastic cover. Say, "You can take this name badge home. When people ask about your name, you can tell them who you are and then turn the name part around and show them Jesus' name. Say, He's my best friend. I want to be like Him."
