******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, October 21, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: September 15, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, SINGING IN THE NIGHT ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: we can help others learn about Jesus with our songs. Memory Verse: "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." Acts 16:31, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - SING-A-LONG Materials needed: Cassette tape recorder Cassette tape with familiar religious choruses Felt squares light colors (Found in Wal-Mart or craft store; one square per every two children) Scissors Small dowel sticks approximately 12" in length. (One for each child) Hot glue gun and glue sticks Permanent markers Pencil WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut each square diagonally, so you end up with two triangular pieces. Hot glue the shortest side of the felt around the dowel stick. The end result will look like a pennant. With the pencil print the words, I LOVE TO PRAISE JESUS on each felt piece. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a pennant and a permanent marker. Have them trace over the words with the marker. Have the children listen to the choruses. As soon as they hear one they know they stand up, wave their banner and join in singing. In our Bible story today two men find that singing praises to Jesus helps them and others around them at a bad time. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - SINGING THE BIBLE STORY Materials needed: Music to the tune of Farmer in the Dell Pianist or tape recorder with pre-recorded song WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Practice singing the song several times so it flows evenly. If you are shy or reluctant to sing the story to the children, ask a musician in your church to sing and record it for you ahead of time. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: After each verse that is sung the children sing the chorus along with you. Chorus Paul was a missionary Paul was a missionary He preached of Jesus and His love The gospel he did carry One night he had a dream A man did call for help So he and Silas started out to make the journey there. Repeat the chorus On the way they met A woman they did heal An evil spirit they cast out When to them she appealed Repeat the chorus Her owners got so mad They threw them both in jail But they still sang and praised the Lord His love would never fail Repeat the chorus An earthquake came through town And shook the prisoners free But Paul and Silas stayed inside The jailer was happy Repeat the chorus The jailer gave his heart To Jesus on that day And he and all his family Were baptized right away Repeat the chorus You too can use your mouth To sing of Jesus love To cheer yourself and tell others Of Him in Heaven above I am a missionary I am a missionary I sing of Jesus and His love The gospel I can carry GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - Materials needed: 10 pieces of colored paper (10 different shades) Scissors Marker Masking tape Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out 10 large music notes, one from each sheet of colored paper. On each note write a word from the memory verse. Rip off five pieces of masking tape, each piece ten feet in length. Lay each strip of masking tape on the floor horizontally each underneath the one above it. Leave a foot of space between each strip. You have made a music staff for the children to lay their memory verse notes on. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: 1. Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Repeat it several times together. 2. Ask for the first word of the verse. Tell the child who gives the answer which colored note has that verse word on it. They place the note somewhere on the staff on the floor. They need to start on the far left of the staff and place each succeeding note going towards the right. (Reading music is like reading words, you go left to right) 3. Keep adding verse word notes until all notes are on the staff. If you are musically inclined the notes can be arranged on the staff to create a simple melody which can be played or hummed at the end of the activity. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - MY JESUS SONGBOOK Materials needed: Construction paper (1 sheet for each child) 1 sheet of blank white paper for each child Glue sticks Crayons or markers 5 pictures illustrating the following: (Multi-cultural children; Jesus with children around Him; children singing praises; children going to church; child/children praying) Stapler WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut the plain white papers into quarter sections. Xerox and cut the pictures into quarter sections. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Each child will make a picture songbook. 1. Have each child choose a sheet of colored construction paper. Then have them fold it twice until it is quarter size. 2. Give each child the four white sheets of paper and the five pictures. Using glue sticks have them glue the five pictures onto the white sheets of paper, front and back. They should have three remaining blank sides of white paper to add pictures to that they collect at home. 3. Color the pictures as time allows. Staple everything into their construction paper booklet. 4. Have each child turn to the picture you designate and sing the song that goes with it. Multi-cultural children: Jesus Loves the Little Children Jesus with the children: Jesus Loves Me Children singing praises: Praise Him! Praise Him! All Ye Little Children Children going to church: This is the Day Child/children praying: Whisper a Prayer Encourage the children to continue to look for pictures to add to their songbook and think of songs to go with them.
