WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children stand in front of their chairs. Tell them you are going to give them words that talk about things in nature that obey God. Give the first child in line the first word clue. If they guess the answer, they sit down.. If they guess wrong or don't guess at all, they remain standing. Continue giving clues on down the line until the password is guessed. Once the password is guessed the child who guesses it sits down. Start on the clues for the next password. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY CARD REVIEW Materials needed: 3 X 5 cards (5 for each child) Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each child's set of (5) 3 X 5 cards draw the following pictures, one picture per card. PICTURES 5 spear & shield mountains hailstones sun Mix the cards well and place in one big deck. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children sit in a circle around the card deck. Beginning with one designated child, have each child around the circle draw a card. Explain to them that there are five different cards each of them has to have in order to win. Keep going around the circle taking turns drawing a card. If a card is drawn that they already have, they immediately discard it to the bottom of the draw pile. If they draw a card they need, they add it to their hand and the play continues around the circle. The game is over when everyone has a full set of five cards. Look at the cards. Talk with the children about how each card relates to the Bible story. 5 - represents the five kings in Canaan who wanted to war against the Gibeonites Spear & shield - represents the weapons of war the Israelites prepared for battle with. Mountains - represent where the enemy soldiers hid from the Israelites Hailstones - represents what God reigned down on the enemy armies to help the Israelites. Sun - represents how God delayed time for one whole day, so the Israelite army could win the battle. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE REVIEW Materials needed: Paper plate Yellow markers Strips of yellow construction paper (11 for each child) Scissors Stapler Pen Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each child's 11 strips of yellow construction paper write one word of the memory verse with the pen. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Give each child a paper plate and a yellow marker. Have them color all one side yellow. Show them how to arrange the "rays of the sun" (yellow strips of construction paper) around the sun so that the memory verse can be read in the correct order. Give them some glue to glue each ray to the back of the plate. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - Materials needed: Water-color paints Plain white paper Pencils Wet paper towels or wipes WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Across the top of all the plain white paper write the words, JESUS CAN MAKE BEAUTIFUL THINGS COME FROM MY MISTAKES. There should be 1-2 papers for each child. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Tell the children, "I once heard a story about a man who was eating at a very fancy restaurant. He was telling a story and waving his arms all around while he was talking. He knocked his cup of brown soda off the table and a big brown stain splatted on the wallpaper and began spreading. He felt very bad. The owner of the restaurant was called. He came out and grabbing a pen out of his pocket he drew a magnificent set of deer antlers around the stain. After he had added the face and done some shading and excellent picture of an elk remained on the wall forever erasing from people's minds the ugly brown stain. That reminds me of what Jesus wants to do for you and me. We make mistakes. Our mistakes are like ugly brown stains. When we are sorry and ask Jesus to forgive us, He can make good things happen in spite of our mistakes just like the owner of the restaurant did." Give each child a sheet of white paper. Add water to the watercolor paints. Have the children select a color and dip their thumb into the paint then press it onto their paper. Comment on the fact that all we have are stains or blobs of paint on the paper. Help the children add features to their blobs to create little creatures. (Mouse, cat, snowman, bunny etc.) Make as many creatures as time allows.
