******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, October 7, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: September 15, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, AN ANGEL UNLOCKS PRISON DOORS ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: God sends His angels to help us. Memory Verse: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Matt. 7:7, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - KEY KEEPERS Materials needed: 7 different keys that fit various locks, boxes and doors (Diary and key, lock and key, jewelry box and key, key to Sabbath school room door, car key, suitcase and key, brief case and key etc.) Ring or lanyard to put all the keys on WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Lay all the keys on a sheet of paper and xerox one sheet for each child. Cut the keys out so each child's set of seven keys can have a small hole punched in the top. (These paper keys will be used later as a memory verse review during a Getting Into Scripture exercise) At the front of the room display the diary, lock, jewelry box, a picture of a door, a picture of a car, the suitcase and the brief case. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Call for volunteers to select a key from off the ring and with the classes help decide what it is used to open. (For example: If a child chooses the jewelry box key, they try it in the jewelry box. If it is the right key, it is left with the box and the child returns to their seat. If it is the wrong one, the key is returned to the ring and another child has a turn. Continue in this manner until all the keys are used up. In our story today heavy prison doors are unlocked and opened without a key. Let's see what happens. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - STORY FOAM SECRET PUZZLE Materials needed: 8 sheets of yellow craft foam (construction paper can be substituted) Black permanent marker Pencil WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Lay the eight yellow foams down on the floor, two to a row horizontally and 4 to a row vertically. With the pencil trace a large angel that covers most of the eight yellow foam squares. Trace over the pencil with a black permanent marker. The figure of an angel should be very apparent. Turn all the yellow foam squares over but keep them in the same position. On this side of the yellow foam squares write the following phrases about the Bible story. Write them in order going from left to right, and proceeding on down vertically until you are done all eight. 1. Many Jews were in Jerusalem for the Passover. 2. Because many people believed what Peter was preaching about Jesus the priests and rulers were unhappy. 3. Peter was put in prison again. 4. Peter prayed, sang and praised Jesus. 5. Peter's friends met in a house to pray for Peter. 6. God answered their prayer yes, and delivered Peter out of prison. 7. Peter went to the house where his friends were praying. 8. Peter kept on preaching about Jesus. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have a child select the top left-hand foam and bring it to you to read. Then have them place it on another spot on the floor turned over so the words are face down. Continue in this manner lining up the yellow square foams until they're a used up and the figure of the angel can be clearly seen. Who was the special key God used to unlock the prison doors? (An angel) GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - KEY VERSE Materials needed: Paper keys from Getting Their Attention activity Shower hook or round bindery ring Small hole puncher or other object to make small holes in tops of paper keys Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make sure each child has seven different key shapes. Punch a small hole in the top of each key. (Just large enough for each key to fit onto the shower hook or ring binder.) Write the memory verse words in the following order on the keys. 1. Diary key - Ask 2. Door key - and it will be given to you 3. Lock key - seek 4. Car key - and you will find 5. Suitcase key - knock 6. Briefcase key - and the door will be opened to you 7. Jewelry box key - Matt. 7:7 WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Give each child their seven keys and ring or hook. Beginning with the first key, have them repeat the word/words and put that key on the ring. Repeat this procedure until all seven keys are on the ring and the memory verse is completed. Do the activity as many times as possible to reinforce the memorization of the verse. Talk about how the keys are like promises of things God wants to give us and do for us if we will just ask. Encourage the children to take their key ring home and share the verse with their family and friends. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - ANGEL ACTIVITY Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children think of times when their angels are busy watching over them. They pretend to be doing that activity and the rest of the class guesses what they are doing or where they are. (Obviously almost anything they elect to do is acceptable, because our angels are with us all the time; eating, driving in the car, sleeping, etc.)
