******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, September 30, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date completed: July 15, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, ANGEL FRIENDS ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Angels are God's messengers and our helpers. Memory Verse: "Are not all angels......sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" Heb. 1:14 GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - MESSENGERS Materials needed: Tape recorder and cassette tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Tape the following messages onto a blank cassette tape. Leave a 10 second space between each message. (For larger Sabbath schools you may add more messages. There should be one message per each child in the group.) 1. Please give your teacher a hug. 2. Please shake hands with the boys in your class. 3. Please tell the children in your class to stand up. 4. Please lead the children in a march around the room one time. 5. Please tell the children to clap until the teacher says stop. 6. Please tell the children to sit down and be quiet. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Set the tape recorder outside of the classroom or quite a distance away from the rest of the group. (You will probably need an adult or older child to operate the recorder.) Tell the children that they are going to be messengers today. They are to receive their message from the tape recorder then come back in and carry it out. Send each child to the recorder one at a time. If a child forgets his/her message, have them go back and listen again. (An adult or older child operating the recorder works much better.) A messenger is someone who takes a message to someone else. In our story today we talk about some of God's messengers and the kinds of messages they gave. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - ANGEL CHARADES Materials needed: Box with an angel glued to the front WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On small slips of paper write the following angel jobs. Fold up the papers and drop them into the box with the angel glued to the front. ANGEL JOBS 1. Shut lion's mouths 2. Take Peter out of prison 3. Tell Mary she will have a special baby 4. Sing a song to the shepherds 5. Stand guard at the Garden of Eden so no one can get in 6. Take Lot's hand and pull him out of the city WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Tell the children they will be angels this morning. Their special jobs are written on pieces of paper found in the angel box. When they draw out a paper, whisper in their ear what it says. You, the teacher, be whatever props the angel needs. (For example: In the first one, you be the lion roaring, and the child is the angel sealing your mouth shut.) The rest of the group tries to guess what the angel is doing. (In the second example: You be Peter and the child is the angel taking off the chains and leading you out of prison.) The examples given are taken from the lesson, but other examples of angel visitations are found in the Bible and can be used if your group is larger. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - ANGEL MURAL Materials needed: Large piece of white butcher block paper (If not available tape plain 8 «" X 11" sheets together) Approximate size: 3' high by 3' wide Glue sticks Scissors Magazines Tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Tape the plain mural background to the wall. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give children magazines to look through. Ask them to look for pictures showing times when angels might be used of God to help us. Examples: Any transportation pictures (angels are with us when we travel) Any playground equipment (angels are with us when we play) Any pictures showing families doing things together (angels are with us) Any pictures of scary events such as visiting the dentist or doctor (angels are with us when we're scared) After each child has cut out a picture or two, have them glue stick it onto the mural. Leave the mural up for the next getting into scripture activity. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE PIN-ON Materials needed: Small angel form (xerox so each child has 2-3) Mural from previous acting on scripture activity Blindfold Tape Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Repeat it several times together. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Play the following activity similarly to Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Blindfold a child and turn them around several times. Place an angel form in their hand. Stick tape on the back of the form. Guide them towards the mural. They are to repeat the verse then stick the angel on the mural somewhere. Remove the blindfold. Give each child several turns, making sure they repeat the verse before each turn. Comment on how many times our angels are with us, all day every day.
