Memory Verse: "Let your light shine before men...." Matthew 5:16, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - WORD FIND Materials needed: (12) styrofoam cups (4) small squares of paper (about the size of a postage stamp) Table or other flat surface area WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Print the following letters onto the 4 small squares, one letter to a square. K I N D Place the 12 cups in a horizontal row across the table. Put each of the lettered squares under a cup, one square to each cup. It does not matter which cups the squares are under. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Tell the children they are looking for 4 squares of paper hidden under the cups. Have a volunteer choose a cup to check under. If a square is found, they remove it and hang onto it, but the cup is turned back over. Shuffle the cups around. Choose another volunteer to check under a cup. Keep choosing children to check under cups and keep shuffling the cups after each turn. When all the letters are located put them in order and help the children sound out the word, K I N D. Our Bible story today is about a very kind lady who loved to do nice things for others. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE LIGHT DISPLAY Materials needed: Match Candle Night light Flashlight Lantern Lamp (with high intensity or high watt light bulb) (6) 3 X 5 cards WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each of the 3 X 5 cards print one memory verse word. Place the 3 X 5 cards with the memory verse words on them in front of the lights: match - Let lamp - men flashlight - shine candle - your lantern - before night light - light Several extension cords. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children decide how to arrange the lights on the table so that they increase in intensity and brightness. (Match, candle, night light, flashlight, lantern, lamp) As they change the lights position in the row move the memory verse word cards also. When they have the lights in the correct order the memory verse cards will be in the correct order also. Show the children where the verse is found in the Bible. Repeat it several times together.
