Memory Verse: "Lord, what do You want me to do?" Acts 9:6, NKJV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING Materials needed: Large baby food jars or pint jars with lids (one jar for each child) Sticks Stones Charcoal briquettes Quart jar with lid Tablespoon Salt Bluing (found in the laundry section of the grocery store) Water Ammonia Food coloring Wipes WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. HOWEVER, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRYING THIS EXPERIMENT AT HOME BEFORE INTRODUCING IT TO YOUR CLASS! WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: 1. Explain to the children that we are going to make something pretty out of something ugly. 2. Give each child a jar. Have them arrange some sticks, stones and charcoal briquettes in the bottom. 3. Move away from the children. Mix up the following ingredients and pour a bit of the mixture over each child's arrangement. The children can help you count at the teaspoon measurements. 6 Tablespoons of salt 6 Tablespoons of bluing 6 Tablespoons of water 1 Tablespoon ammonia 4. Have the children squeeze drops of food coloring on their arrangements. Have the children screw the lids on their jars and leave them alone for the remainder of the class. Check them at the end. The crystal garden should continue to grow and look attractive for at least a week. In our Bible story today, God took someone who had many ugly sins in his life and turned him into something beautiful. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -MEMORY VERSE REVIEW Materials needed: Flashlight (Bright and as large as possible) Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Have them stand in a circle with you in the middle. Everyone shuts his/her eyes. Pick a child to shine the flashlight on. Have them open their eyes. Whoever has the light shining on them repeats the memory verse. Continue in this manner until all the children know the verse and have had as many turns as time allows. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE ACTION STORY Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Circle all the following verbs in the story. Sleep, left, fell, looked up, couldn't see, prayed, speak, laid his hands on, see again, study, hurried away WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: As you tell the story the children provide actions and noises to fit the verbs that you have circled. Do it along with them. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - CHANGE SONG Materials needed: Piano player or cassette recorder Music to the tune of 'If You're Happy and You Know It' WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Practice singing the song so the words fit easily. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children stand in a circle. Practice singing the song several times. Whenever you sing the word, change, the children change directions. For example: the first time you sing the word change, the children turn around and face outward. The second time you sing the word, change, the children turn back around and face in the circle. The third time you sing the word change, they turn around and face away from the circle. Continue in this manner until the last line. On the last line of the song, they join hands and walk around the circle together. Song - If God can change Saul, He'll change me too If God can change Saul, He'll change me too If God can change Saul, He can change us one and all Cause that's the wonderful work that He can do
