******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, September 2, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: July 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, PHILIP THE MISSIONARY ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: The Holy Spirit will guide us in witnessing for Jesus. Memory Verse: ".....you will be my witnesses.......to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - SCROLL SCRIPTURES Materials needed: Stickers with scripture texts on them (If you can't buy any from a Christian bookstore, make your own by printing or typing the scriptures onto plain sticky- back labels.) (2) dowel sticks for each child (medium-size diameter, 1/4 - 1/2" and 6" in length) (1) piece of legal-size paper for each child Tape Rubber band for each child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Tape the dowel sticks on both sides of the legal size paper. Roll them together and secure with a rubber band. Do this for each child in the class. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a scroll. Show them how to remove the rubber band and unroll it. Explain to them how the words that they read from their Bibles today were written on scrolls back in Bible times. Give them scripture verse stickers to put in their scrolls. Read the verses together. In our story today one of the deacons in the church named Philip was given the chance to talk about the scriptures with someone who did not understand them. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE MISSIONARIES Materials needed: Transportation coloring book that has plain simple pictures of the following figures: Boat, Plane, Car, Train Scissors Hole punch Yarn Masking tape Neon card stock paper (two sheets for each child) Marker Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Using the coloring book pictures, xerox boats, trains, planes and cars or trucks onto the neon card stock. Xerox one transportation vehicle for each child. Cut them out. Turn them over and trace them onto a second sheet of card stock of matching color. Cut those pieces out. Each child should now have a front and back of a vehicle. On the front of each vehicle print the memory verse words, "........you will be my witnesses. On the backs of each vehicle print the memory verse words, ......to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8. Put the front and back of the vehicles together. Punch holes around the peripheral (not too many) so the children can use the yarn to thread them together. Cut a piece of yarn approximately 12" for each child. Wrap one end with masking tape, which will be the end they use to thread with. Tie a knot in the opposite end. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Give them each a vehicle. Talk about what a witness is. Talk about the different ways Jesus uses us to witness to others. Give each child a piece of yarn. Tape the knotted end to the back of the vehicle. Show the children how to use the yarn to go in and out the holes threading the front and back of the vehicle together. Practice saying the memory verse in two parts as written on the vehicles. One child says the first part of the verse and holds up the front of his vehicle. Another child completes the verse and holds up the back of his vehicle. We do not have to travel far in any type of a vehicle to witness for Jesus. We are witnesses everyday to the people we see. When Jesus does call us to travel as missionaries for Him we will already be ready for we will have practiced being missionaries in our own homes, schools and neighborhoods. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - CHARIOT WITNESSING Materials needed: (4) boxes (large enough for a Kindergarten child to sit in) Markers Scrolls (use ones made in Getting Their Attention) Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary except to gather the supplies. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Line the four boxes up in a row. Explain that they are chariots to sit in. When Philip got into the chariot with the Ethiopian man he shared the good news about Jesus with him. Make a symbol or picture on the outside of each box to help the children remember what good news they can share with others about Jesus. Make sure they understand that this good news comes from the Bible. A heart - Jesus loves you very much A cross - Jesus died for your sins and forgives you A tombstone - Jesus rose up from the dead and went back to Heaven A cloud - Jesus is in Heaven preparing a place for us to live with Him. He will come back to get us so we can be with Him. Each child takes their scroll and sits in the first chariot box. By looking on the picture on the outside they tell you the good news about Jesus. As soon as they've told you they can move to the next chariot box. The children keep moving to the succeeding chariot boxes until they reach the last one. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE--WILL JESUS HELP ME? GAME Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Line the children up in a horizontal row at the back of the room. You stand at the front of the room. This activity is similar to Mother-may-I. Instead of asking each child individually, address the group as a whole. They need to answer responsively with, "Will Jesus Help Me?" And you respond with "YES! He will! You may take five baby steps forward. (The activity can obviously be changed, two giant steps, one scissor step etc.) If they forget to say, "Will Jesus Help Me?" they have to stay where they are and wait for their next turn to move. (Say, "class, 1. _______________, you can be a witness when you share a Sabbath school paper. 2. ________________,you can be a witness when you say a prayer in front of your friends. 3. ________________,you can be a witness when you sing songs about Jesus. 4. ________________,you can be a witness when you play fairly and don't cheat in a game. 5. ________________,you can be a witness when you help someone who is hurt. 6. ________________,you can be a witness when you treat other people with respect. Make up as many statements as you need to help all the children reach you, which is their destination.
