******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, September 1, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: July 31, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, MOSES MAKES A MISTAKE ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Look to Jesus for forgiveness and happiness. Memory Verse: "I...will draw all men to myself." John 12:32, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - SNAKE TIME Materials needed: Play-doh 2 thin twigs for each child String WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Find two thin twigs for each child and tie them together in a cross fashion with the string. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a small amount of Play-doh. Help them roll out a thin snake. Talk to them about snakes, what kinds there are; poisonous versus non-poisonous; what they eat; how they feel about snakes etc. Then give each child a twig cross. Have them wrap the snake around the pole (similar to the picture on p. 30 of the quarterly). In our Bible story today there are snakes--lots and lots of snakes, poisonous snakes. God has a lesson to teach the Israelites. Let's see if we can learn it too. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BEADED CROSS MEMORY VERSE CRAFT Materials needed: Pipe cleaner (two for each child - 3" X 3") Beads (14 for each child) Nylon cord or yarn for each child (approximately 16" in length) Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Take one pipe cleaner and bend it around the other to form a cross. Do this for each child. Count out 14 beads for each child and cut a string or piece of yarn 16" in length for each child. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the verse is found in the Bible. On the straight part of the cross have the children thread on seven beads, saying each word of the memory verse for each bead that they add. On the cross arm of the cross have the children thread eight beads, four on each side, saying each word of the memory verse for each bead that they add, ending with the text for the last bead. Show the children how to bend the ends of the pipe cleaners to hold the beads on. Tie the string or yarn around the top of the cross. Make sure the children understand that it is not the beaded cross or wooden cross or any type of cross that has any power to help us be close to Jesus. Crosses are only symbols or pictures to remind us of what happened on the cross. Jesus died for us on the cross. It is His powerful love for us that changes us, heals us and draws us close to Him. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE MAGNET GAME Materials needed: (1) 4" x 4" piece of thin metal such as tin for each child Sheets of magnet (Sign makers use it to make signs for on cars, vans etc.) Scissors Black permanent marker WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out 5 X's and 5 O's for each child from the sheet of magnet. Leave the white sticky-back paper attached to the X's and O's. On 5 of the O's write a memory verse word on each one with a fine-tip black marker. On 4 of the X's write the next to the last memory verse word, the last memory verse word, the word, John and the numbers 12:32. Each child should now have 9 Tic- Tac-Toe playing pieces with a memory verse word or text on them plus one extra blank X. Draw a tic-tac-toe board on each child's piece of tin with the black permanent marker. Draw it large enough so that the playing pieces can be used. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Give them each a tic-tac-toe board and nine playing pieces. Talk about how the tin attracts the magnet playing pieces. Have them experiment trying to attach the playing pieces to another surface such as wood, carpeting, etc. Starting with the top left corner help them put the playing pieces in order moving to the right then down to the next row continuing to the right, then down to the bottom row and moving across to the right. Just like this tin pulls the magnets to itself, the way Jesus loves pulls me to him makes me want to be with Him all the time. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - TUG OF WAR Materials needed: Rope (12 - 15') Masking tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make a dividing line across the floor with the masking tape. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have all the children stand on one side of the masking tape line holding onto the rope. You grab the other end of the rope and stand on the other side of the masking tape. (Stand near the end of the rope.) Explain to the children that they are going to represent Jesus. You, the teacher, are going to represent Satan. Say, "Did you know that every day there is a tug of war over you? Tug of War is when you have two sides and each side pulls as hard as they can to get all of the rope over onto their side. Every day Satan and Jesus have a tug of war over you." Place a child on the masking tape. Have them grab hold of the rope with both hands. Say, "Satan tries to attract you or pull you to his side with his temptations." Give a gentle tug on the rope and pull the child in the center off the masking tape. "Jesus reminds you of how much He loves you and He pulls you to Him. Sometimes it is through singing, sometimes through something you read or something someone says to you about Him." Ask the children to give a gentle tug on the rope to pull the child in the center off the masking tape toward them. Give the following scenarios and have the appropriate side answer by pulling on the rope. Change the child in the middle so each child has a turn. 1. When you feel like throwing something at someone, who is pulling you like a magnet? (Satan) 2. When you feel like being kind to someone even though they're not always kind to you, who is pulling you like a magnet? (Jesus) 3. When you feel like going to Sabbath school, who is pulling you like a magnet? (Jesus) 4. When you feel like singing happy songs about Jesus who is pulling you like a magnet? (Jesus) 5. When you feel like calling someone bad names, who is pulling you like a magnet? (Satan) 6. When you listen closely to your Bible stories, who is pulling you like a magnet? (Jesus) 7. When you feel like hogging all your toys to yourself, who is pulling you like a magnet (Satan) 8. When you feel happy after obeying mommy, who is pulling you like a magnet? (Jesus) Say, "You'll never feel Satan or Jesus pulling you like you felt the rope today. When you feel happy and joyful inside you can know that Jesus is the reason why. When you feel grumbly, guilty and just plain ugly it is because Satan is hanging around. A quick prayer is all that is needed to chase Satan away. Jesus wants you to feel happy and joyful all the time."
