******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, August 11, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: June 15, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, NADAB AND ABIHU DISOBEY ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Learning to obey God when we are young will make our whole life better. Memory Verse: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." Prov. 14:12, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - LEARNING TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS Materials needed: Simple sugar cookie recipe Supplies needed to make a batch of sugar cookies WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Gather enough utensils, bowls and mixing tools to make two batches of cookies. Gather enough ingredients to make one batch of cookies. The children will be divided into two groups, each making a half-of-a-batch of cookies. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Divide the children into two groups, but keep them both close to you so you can supervise both. Have half the children mix up a half batch of cookies following the recipe closely. Have the other half mix up a half batch of cookies substituting measurements and changing the recipe to suit them. (Example: Interchange the baking soda and salt measurements, so there is less baking soda and more salt than usual in the recipe.) Have someone bake the cookies while you go on into the Bible story. After the story is over have the children taste a bite of cookie from each batch. Talk about how wise it is to follow instructions. That's what the children of Israel learned from the sad story of Nadab and Abihu. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE MAZE Materials needed: 25 feet of rope 5 clothes pins for each child Bibles Blindfolds (one for each child) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make a maze with the rope by tying it around objects and winding it in and out around the room or outside. Keep it at the height of a Kindergarten child's waist. Every 5 feet clip all the clothes pins together. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Repeat it several times together. Blindfold each child. Tell them they are to begin at one end of the rope maze and follow it along gathering clothes pins, one at each stop they come to. They can clip them to their fingers or to their clothes as they go, so as not to lose any. Space them at least 5 feet apart before sending a new child in. When all the children have gathered all five of their clothes pins, return together as a group. Say the memory verse in phrases as a clip is removed for each phrase. There is a way - clip one that seems right to a man - clip two but in the end - clip three it leads to death - clip four Prov. 14:12 - clip five ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - GOD'S WAY IS THE RIGHT WAY Materials needed: 1 piece of black construction paper for each child 1 piece of plain white paper for each child Scissors Glue Black markers Magnetic tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make a large white arrow for each child from their plain white paper. On the front of the arrow print the words, GOD'S WAY IS THE RIGHT WAY. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a piece of black construction paper, a white arrow with words printed on it, glue and a black magic marker. Talk about what a one-way sign means to drivers. Have the child glue their arrow onto their black construction paper and copy over the words with the black marker. A piece of magnetic tape can be added to the back so the sign can be placed on the refrigerator as a reminder. It's always best to obey whatever God says. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE PATHWAY Materials needed: 18 sheets of paper WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Place the 18 sheets of paper around the room in a path fashion beginning and ending at the same spot. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children step from paper to paper saying each word of the memory verse (as learned from the quarterly). In order to get to the end of the path they must remember each word. Coach them as needed and encourage them to try over and over until they can move along the entire length of the path.
