******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, August 5, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: July 15, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, NOT AFRAID OF RULERS ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Jesus will help us know what to say when we tell others about Him. Memory Verse: "....there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - PRISONERS Materials needed: Chairs the children are sitting on WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Make an enclosure using the children's chairs, large enough for all of them to be able to stand inside. Explain to them that the enclosure is a prison. They are to think of reasons why people end up in prison. Each time they volunteer an answer, they "go stand in the prison". In our story today, two of Jesus' close friends end up in prison. Listen closely to the story to find out why. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - STORY RAINBOW CHAIN Materials needed: Colored foam (six different colors that are found in a rainbow; one sheet of each color; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet) Scissors Hot glue gun and glue sticks Marker WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut a strip of each color for each child. The strips will be made into chain links so they don't need to be longer than 4" and wider than a 1/2". On the strips write the following: 1. Red strip - Jesus is crucified 2. Orange strip - Holy Spirit comes 3. Yellow strip - Disciples preach and heal 4. Green strip - Disciples arrested 5. Blue strip - Peter preaches a sermon 6. Violet strip - Peter & John are released from prison WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children a picture of a rainbow. Ask them how it is made. (Sun shining through rain or water drops causes the beautiful colors to appear.) Tell the Bible story using the colors of the rainbow in order to help the children create a chain order of events. As you bring out the first part which is a reminder of Jesus being crucified in Jerusalem guide the children in selecting which color comes first in a rainbow. Have each child bend their styrofoam piece into a loop. Put a dab of hot glue on each one to connect them. Proceed to the next point of the story, the Holy Spirit comes upon the disciples giving them power and courage. Select the orange strip as the next color in the rainbow and connect it to the red strip. Continue in this manner until you are through the story. At the end say, "A witness is someone who lets Jesus shine through them, so others can see the beautiful colors of His love." If you let Jesus shine through you, you will be as beautiful as a rainbow." GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE SONG Materials needed: Music to tune of "Are You Sleeping" Piano player or pre-recorded music WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Practice singing the following memory verse words to the tune of "Are You Sleeping" several times until they fit comfortably for you. The alternate memory verse words are written directly under the original folk tune words so that you can get an idea how they fit and flow together. Sing the original folk tune several times to yourself first, then drop those words out and substitute the new memory verse words as suggested: Are You Sleeping There's No other (leader sings) Are You Sleeping There's No other (children sing) Brother John Name under Heaven (leader sings) Brother John Name under Heaven (children sing) Morning Bells are Ringing Given to men by (all together) Morning Bells are Ringing Which we must be saved (all together) Ding Ding Dong Acts 4 12 (leader sings) Ding Ding Dong Acts 4 12 (children sing) WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: This is a long memory verse for Kindergarten-aged children to learn. Setting it to music will help. Show the children where the verse is found in the Bible. Sing it several times together. Then sing it as you hold hands and walk in a circular motion. Practice singing the verse with your eyes closed. Practice singing the verse, clapping whenever you have a part to sing. Let the children volunteer other ways they would like to move as they practice singing the verse. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - Materials needed: 5 sheets of plain white paper Markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On the plain sheets of white paper print the following letters, (JESUS), one letter to a page. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give the 5 sheets of paper out to five different children. Have them unscramble the name and place themselves in the correct order to spell the name. Have another child scramble them up. Then ask the following questions, one at a time. Give the children 15 seconds on the clock to place themselves in the right order. The name JESUS is the answer to all the questions. After each question is answered scramble the children before asking the next question. The letters can be scrambled up between the children also so they have a different letter each time. Questions: 1. What name can we remember when we are afraid? 2. What name can we remember when we are sad? 3. What name can we remember when we are confused and don't know what to do? 4. What name can we remember when we're trying to cheer someone else up? 5. What name can we remember when people are angry with us? 6. What name can we remember when we feel badly because of the mistakes we've made?
