******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, August 4, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: June 15, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, WORSHIPING IN GOD'S HOUSE ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: God wants us to meet with Him in worship every day. Memory Verse: "I rejoiced with those who said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord.'" Ps. 122:1, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - DAILY DOSE OF WORSHIP Materials needed: Dry macaroni alphabet letters Empty pill bottle (preferably a vitamin bottle) Saran wrap WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) For each child in the class pick out the letters W O R S H I P from the dry macaroni letters. Also for each child pick out a T, V, and F. Take each child's 10 letters and place them in a square of Saran Wrap. Fold up the Saran Wrap and drop it into the pill bottle. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children the medicine bottle. Sometimes people take medicines because they're sick. Sometimes they take vitamins because they want to stay well. Some people take a pill everyday. We call that a daily dose. We need to spend time with Jesus every day. I am going to give each of you a daily dose of something. (Give each child a Saran Wrap of letters from the bottle.) Instruct the children to turn around and dump the letters out of the bag onto their chair. Ask them to remove the T and the V. Often the TV keeps us from spending time with Jesus. Ask them to remove the F from their pile. Sometimes being busy playing with our friends keeps us from spending time with Jesus. Sometimes we're just too busy having fun. Have the children put their letters that are left in order to spell the word, WORSHIP. When we spend time with Jesus we call it worship. In our Bible story today God shows the children of Israel how to worship Him. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - TABERNACLE TOUR Materials needed: Appliance boxes (2 fairly large) Flashlight Paint (gold, brown) Incense White material (Enough to hang inside to divide the appliance boxes in half to represent the Holy and Most Holy rooms) Purple, blue and red markers WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Take the flaps off one end of each appliance box. Color red, blue and purple stripes onto the white cloth with the markers. Tape or fasten with large-headed pins the curtain in-between the boxes to represent the separation between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. On the walls of the first box paint the golden lamp stand with seven branches and seven oil lamps with gold paint; the table of shew bread with the 12 pieces of bread on it; the laver; and the golden altar. Poke a small hole through the box at the golden altar and stick an incense stick through it. Light the incense right before the children begin going through the boxes. In the second box paint the ark with the angels over the mercy seat. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give the children a flashlight and have them take turns going through the "makeshift" sanctuary. Tell them to use the flashlight to look on the walls. Tell them to notice everything in the box so they can give you a report when they come out. When all the children have completed their tour of the sanctuary, talk about what they saw and why God placed each thing in the sanctuary. Each thing in the sanctuary was created to help people worship God. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - CANDLE-LIGHTER'S Materials needed: The golden lamp stand drawn on a piece of white paper and xeroxed so each child has a copy Yellow construction paper (enough to cut out seven flames for each child) Scissors Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Xerox a picture of the golden lamp stand for each child. The lamp stand should be without flames. Cut seven flames out for each child. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in their Bibles. Give them each a lamp stand picture and seven flames. Starting at the flame all the way to the left follow the pattern below on teaching the children to say parts of the memory verse as they add flames to their lamp stands. Flame 1 - I rejoiced Flame 2 - with those Flame 3 - who said to me Flame 4 - Let us go Flame 5 - to the house Flame 6 - of the Lord Flame 7 - Ps. 122:1 The object of the activity is to get all the branches lit while committing the memory verse to memory. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE -LEARNING TO WORSHIP GAME Materials needed: Poster board Marker Game board playing pieces or tokens (one for each child playing) Dice or spinner WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Prepare the poster board with a winding path like a regular game board. Divide the path into squares. On every 2nd or 3rd square draw a piece of furniture from the lesson. Since there are only five pieces, you will be re-drawing the items over and over several times. Whenever a child's token lands on a square with one of these pieces of furniture they have to tell how it helps us to worship Jesus today. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children gather in a circle around the playing board and choose a token. Before beginning the game tell them that all the furniture in the sanctuary teaches us something about how to worship Jesus today. Lamp stand - Whenever I worship Jesus He shines in me and others see it. Table of shew bread - I need to worship Jesus as much as I need to eat every day. Incense altar - When I worship I must pray. Laver - When I worship I must always confess my sins or naughties. Ark - When I worship I remember who Jesus is and everything He has done for me. The children take turns throwing the dice and advancing around the board. When they land on one of the pieces of furniture, they must recall with you how that furniture teaches them about worshiping Jesus today before they can move on. (They will need considerable help, but will get the hang of it as they go)
