****************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, July 22,2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: June 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, MANY PEOPLE LEARN TO LOVE JESUS ****************************************************** Lesson Aim: Baptism shows others that we love Jesus Memory Verse: "Repent and be baptized, every one of you,......"Acts 2:38, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - HELPERS Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Divide the children into pairs. If there is a leftover child, you become his partner. Designate one person in each pair as the helper. Designate the other child in the pair as the one who needs help. Tell the children who need help that they cannot do anything on their own. They cannot answer you, do what you ask or go where you direct without the aid of their helper partner. Ask them to do the following: (It is up to them to give instructions to their helpers after you have read them so the directions can be carried out by the helper.) 1. Tie your shoes (OR buckle your shoes) 2. Tell someone you're glad their in Sabbath school today 3. Repeat the memory verse 4. Go and tell the teacher you're sorry if you've done anything bad in class lately. Ask, "How many of you were glad you had a helper to do some of those things for you?" It's hard to speak up sometimes. It's hard to remember words you want to say. It's hard to ask someone for forgiveness. Jesus knew it would be hard for His disciples friends to do some of the things He needed them to do. He knew they would need help remembering the things they needed to say about Him. He knew they would need help in knowing where Jesus wanted them to go. That is why He sent them a special helper. Let's learn about this helper in our story today. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY MIME Materials needed: A fan Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Assign the children the role of being disciples. As you go through the following points of the lesson have them mime out the actions with you or under your direction. 1. Have the children gather around and pretend to open their mouths and sing, then open their Bibles and read, then pretend to pray together in a circle. 2. (Turn the fan on the group briefly.) 3. Have the children fan out into different parts of the room. Ask them to pretend they are talking in a different language. Have them hold up a Bible and pretend to preach. 4. Bring the children back together. When you tell the part in the story about many being baptized, show the children how baptism by immersion was done. Help the children understand why this is still practiced in our church today. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE BAPTISM INVITATIONS Materials needed: You're invited cards (bought or made on the computer)(one for each child) Pens WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Inside the invitation cards should be a message similar to the following: To My Church Family: You are invited to my baptism When: After I have finished taking Bible studies Where: At my church Why: Because I want to tell everyone in a special way that I choose to be Jesus' forever. Print the memory verse at the bottom of the invitation Colored pencils or markers WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Read the inside of the invitation with the children. Have them trace over the memory verse words with colored pencils or markers. The invitations can be decorated with religious stickers, stamps, sequins, glitter etc. Display the invitations on a church bulletin board for several weeks then keep them and give them to the child when they move to the next division. Encourage them from time to time to remember their desire to be baptized. Don't, however, in anyway make them feel that this is the only way to show their love for Jesus or that they are only saved if they are baptized. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - HOLY SPIRIT OR EVIL ANGEL Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Explain to the children that the Holy Spirit is a part of God that we cannot see or talk to. But whenever we ask, the Holy Spirit comes to help us in many ways. There are other spirits that we cannot see or talk to. They are evil angels. They do not do helpful things for us. Read the following sentences to the children. If they think it is something the Holy Spirit would do, they begin to blow and make a wind sound like the disciples heard when they Holy Spirit came to help them. If they think it is something an evil angel would do, they keep silent. 1. Which spirit would come to you and help you feel sorry for the naughty things you do? 2. Which spirit would make you feel afraid and frightened? 3. Which spirit would help you feel love in your heart for Jesus? 4. Which spirit would help you feel brave when you're doing something for Jesus? 5. Which spirit would make you feel like hurting yourself or other people? 6. Which spirit would tell you you're too bad for Jesus to love? 7. Which spirit would help you remember things you've read or learned about Jesus?
