***************************************************** Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, July 15, 2000 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date: June 15, 2,000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, JESUS GOES TO HEAVEN ***************************************************** Lesson Aim: Jesus is coming to take us to heaven. Memory Verse: "This same Jesus,........will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." Acts 1:11, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - DOMINO GOSPEL Materials needed: Dominoes (Each child needs 10) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child ten dominoes. (They are going to build a vertical pyramid of standing dominoes with each row containing one more domino than the row in front of it. When the first domino is tapped the rest will fall in succession.) Have everyone set up one domino in front of them. Tell them that domino represents them. When they learn the good news about Jesus, they tell two friends. Show the children how to set two dominoes up behind the first one, so that both will be hit by the first domino. (Check each child's set-up before going on.) Explain that these two friends tell three of their friends. Set up three dominoes behind the two making sure their close enough to be hit by the two in front when they go down. (Check each child's set-up before going on.) Explain that these three friends tell four of their friends. Set up the final four dominoes as the back line. (Check each child's set-up before proceeding on.) What happens when one person is willing to share what they know about Jesus? (Have each child lightly flick or tap the first domino. All dominoes should fall together.) Many people come to know Jesus. In our Bible story today Jesus wants His friends, the disciples, to know that this is what will happen wherever they go to preach about Him. He promises them a special helper who will go with them. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE -MEMORY VERSE Materials needed: Card stock or other heavy duty paper (1 sheet for each child) Fiber-fill Glue-sticks P. 13 in Kindergarten quarterly (xerox one per child) If you do not have a quarterly substitute with a picture of Jesus in the clouds with angels 1 piece of 6" yarn for each child Colored markers OR crayons Bibles A compass or other sharp-pointed object to punch a small hole with Tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each child's piece of card stock print the memory verse in capital letters across the top. In the middle of the card stock punch a small hole just large enough for the yarn to go through. Punch another small hole the same size « inch from the bottom of the card stock directly under the hole in the middle so both holes line up. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show each child where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Repeat it several times together. Give each child a picture of Jesus in the clouds with angels to color. They may also trace over the memory verse words with markers. Poke one end of the yarn through the hole in the middle of the page and the other end through the hole at the bottom of the page. Tie the ends together at the back of the card stock leaving the yarn fairly taut. Tape the Jesus with angels picture to the yarn near the bottom hole so that when you pull the yarn at the back of the page the picture moves up then back down. Glue the fiber fill around the middle of the page so that when the Jesus ascends, He is "taken up into the clouds" Have the children practice saying the memory verse, moving the Jesus picture up when they say, "This same Jesus"and back down when they say, "will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - MY JESUS STORY BOOK Materials needed: Colored construction paper (2 sheets per each child) Scissors Stapler Jesus stickers (one for each child) Glue sticks Colored markers Pictures on p. 6, 7, 12, 32 (second coming scene) from this quarter's quarterly xeroxed; Picture on p. 42 from last quarter's quarterly xeroxed. (Xerox one picture for each child. If you do not have the available quarterlies, the five pictures are: Crucifixion scene; resurrection scene; Ascension scene, Jesus with modern-day children and a second coming or heaven scene. WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Xerox the pictures of the five scenes mentioned above for each child in your class. The size of the pictures should be about 3 1/2" high X 2 1/2" wide. Fold all the construction paper in half and then in half again so you end up with quarters. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Explain to the children that they are going to make a Jesus book, so they will be able to remember what they want to tell others about their friend, Jesus. 1. Give each child two "booklets" or folded pieces of construction paper. Have them staple the "booklets" together along the left-hand side. 2. On the first page print the word My at the top of the book. In the middle of the book place the Jesus sticker. Under the sticker write the word, book. 3. On the second page of the book glue the picture of the crucifixion scene. 4. On the third page of the book glue the picture of the resurrection scene. 5. On the fourth page of the book glue the picture of the ascension scene. 6. On the fifth page of the book glue the picture of Jesus with the modern-day children. 7. On the sixth page of the book glue the picture of Jesus' second coming. On the back cover have the children print the words, By (add their name here) Any of the pictures may be colored. Show the children how to use the pictures to tell others what they know about Jesus. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - MUSICAL CHAIRS QUIZ Materials needed: Cassette player and Christian music tape OR piano player Masking tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Assemble the chairs in a circle. Make sure there is one chair for each child. Face the chairs outwards like in musical chairs. Draw a star on a piece of masking tape, and when the children are not looking place the tape underneath one of the chairs. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children all choose a chair to sit in. Explain to them that when they hear the music playing, they are to stand up and begin walking around the circle of chairs. (They do not have to race or grab a chair because there is a chair for everyone.) When the music stops, they sit down in the chair closest to them. Then they look under their chairs. Whoever is sitting in the chair where the star is stuck has to answer one of the following questions from the lesson. Have them turn their backs to you and switch the starred chair with another chair. Start the music and the activity again. Play as long as time permits or until the questions run out. Questions: 1. What is a fisher of men? 2. Who would Jesus send to be the disciples helper? 3. What special thing can the Holy Spirit do that people with bodies like ours cannot do? 4. What happens when one person tells someone else about Jesus? 5. What happened to Jesus as He was talking to the disciples on Mount Olivet? 6. Who met Jesus in the air? 7. Who comforted the disciples with the news that Jesus would indeed return? 8. Tell me one way you can share what you know about Jesus with someone else.
