******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, June 30, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: May 1, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, FOOD FALLS FROM HEAVEN ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: God provides for our every need. He provides special blessings for the Sabbath day. Memory Verse: "My God will meet all your needs." Phil. 4:19, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - FOOD FESTIVAL Materials needed: Paper plates (one for each child) Magazines with pictures of food Scissors Glue sticks WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a magazine to look through. Have them cut out pictures of foods they would take with them on a trip. Then have then glue the pictures in collage fashion onto their paper plates. As they are selecting foods discuss with them: --Can this food you're choosing be easily taken on a trip? --Will this food you're choosing spoil or go bad while you're on the trip? --Have you selected foods that are good for you that your body needs or just things you like? In our Bible story today the Israelites are traveling on a very long trip. They cannot carry all the food they need for this trip. Eventually they run out of food. Now what? Let's see what God's answer to their problem is. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MANNA MAZE Materials needed: Graham crackers Powdered sugar Honey Paper plates covered with food pictures from previous activity Chairs (to make a maze with) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Break the graham crackers into small squares. Spread a very light covering of honey over each cracker, just enough so that the powdered sugar will stick to the graham cracker. These are manna wafers. Hide them around the room. Set the chairs up in a maze fashion in the center of the room. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child his/her paper food plate. Have them pretend they are the Israelites. They walk around and around through the maze as you tell the Bible story. Every now and then, stop and have them choose something off their plate to eat. When everyone has "eaten" almost everything off their plate talk about where the next meal is going to come from. Continue walking through the maze until you get to the part of the story where God sends the manna. Have the children leave the maze area and branch out to search for manna (graham cracker pieces). They are only allowed to find 3-4 pieces. They put them on their plate and bring them back to you. When everyone has collected their manna and returned to you, finish the story. (Check with parents ahead of time to make sure it is okay for the students to eat the manna.) GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE SONG Materials needed: Cassette player of piano player Music to the tune of I Will Make You Fishers of Men Basket (fairly large) Play food or plastic fruit (enough to fill the basket) Box or container to keep the food/fruit in Bibles WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Practice singing the memory verse to the tune of I Will Make You Fishers of Men using the following words: My God will meet all of my needs All of my needs All of my needs My God will meet all of my needs If I trust in Him Set the chairs in a circle. Place the container of food/fruit in the center of the circle. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children sit in the circle of chairs. Show them where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Teach them how to sing the variation of the verse. Sing it several times together. Give the basket to one of the children. While the music is playing they are to go to the container take out a piece of food/fruit, place it in their basket, return to their seat and pass the basket to the person to their right. Each child then follows this same procedure. The goal is that the basket needs to make it around the circle and be filled before the song is finished. After they have tried a couple of times, encourage them to sing along with you as they gather the food and pass the basket. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - FOOD BASKETS Materials needed: Eggs Bread Canned food Boxes Markers Stickers 3 X 5 cards WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Collect food from church members to make several food baskets/boxes with. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Help the children pack food baskets or boxes for people in need. Help them write the memory verse on 3 X 5 cards and decorate them with stickers to put inside the boxes. Remind children that God uses us many times to help take care of the needs of others.
