******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, May 5, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: March 15, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, THREE YEARS IN PRISON ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: To help the child choose to be kind, cheerful and diligent wherever he is. Memory Verse: "He knows the way that I take." Job 23:10, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - DRAWING DREAMS Materials needed: 1 sheet of plain white paper for each child Pencils Crayons An ear of corn A picture or felt cow A loaf of homemade bread A bunch of grapes 4 shoeboxes WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Stand each shoebox up in its lid so it will remain upright. Inside each shoebox place the following: the ear of corn, the picture or felt piece cow, the loaf of homemade bread and the bunch of grapes. Stick the shoeboxes in different corners of the room. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a piece of white paper, a pencil and some crayons. Assign them a shoebox to go look in. (Assign children to the shoeboxes so there are equal numbers at each box as far as possible.) After they look in their shoebox, they find a place to themselves away from the other children and draw hat they saw in their box. They can return to the box as often as necessary, but they must not look in any of the other boxes. After they have drawn what they saw, they color it, then turn it over and place it under their chair. These will be used in the next Getting Into Scripture Activity. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BEAN BAG BIBLE STORY Materials needed: Pictures drawn from previous activity Sheets of white paper (Enough for each child to have 3 or more) One bean bag for each child (knee-high socks filled with rice or beans and tied in a knot work as easy bean bags) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make each child a bean bag. On three sheets of the white paper draw the following pictures: a prison cell window, a Pharaoh and the number 7. Xerox the sheets so each child has one. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Collect the pictures from the children that they drew during the previous activity. Spread all the pictures out on the floor in a circular pattern leaving the central middle circle free where the children can stand. Give each child a bean bag. As you narrate the story they are to listen for parts of the story that are illustrated on the papers. When you talk about Pharaoh, they toss their bean bag onto any Pharaoh picture. You collect the bags and hand them back. When you talk about Joseph being sent to prison, they toss their bag onto any prison cell window. This activity continues until the story is complete. The only time more than one bean bag can occupy a picture is when you're talking about the dreams they drew. There will not be enough pictures unless they double or triple up on them. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BAKER'S BALANCE GAME Materials needed: 7 pint baskets (the kind like strawberries come in) Bibles Masking tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Run a line of masking tape across the floor from one end of the room to the other. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Repeat it several times together. Choose a volunteer to begin at the end of the masking tape. For each word of the memory verse that they can repeat put a pint basket on top of their head. That's how many baskets they may carry across the masking tape to the other end of the room. As they listen to one another repeating the verse, they will be able to carry more and more baskets at one time across. The game is over when everyone can carry all seven baskets across the tape to the other side. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - RHYME TIME Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary.
