******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, April 14, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: March 15, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, THE DIFFERENT TWINS ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: God forgives us even when we don't choose His way. Memory Verse: "Do not lie to each other." Col. 3:9, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - ANIMAL BABIES MATCH-UP Materials needed: Pictures of the following: kitten, bear cub, fawn, lamb, colt, calf, fox pup, skunk baby, 3 X 5 cards Scissors Glue WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Xerox each picture so that you will have two of each baby. If necessary, cut them to size so they will fit on a 3 X 5 card. Glue each animal picture to a 3 X 5 card. Shuffle the cards and lay them out on the floor for a matching game. WHAT THE CHILDREN TO: Tell the children some mothers have lost their babies. Each mother had two babies, a set of twins. Have the children turn two cards over and look for matches. The game continues until all the cards are matched. Talk about the babies on the cards. When mothers have two babies at the same time, they are called twins. Sometimes the babies look exactly alike. Sometimes they look different. In our Bible story today a mother, Rebekah, has a set of twins. They not only look different they act different too. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - BIBLE STORY DRAMATIZATION Materials needed: 2 small pieces of fur felt (to place on a child's forearms like Jacob did) 4 large rubber bands (to hold the fur in place on arms) Sleeping bag or blanket 2 baby dolls Small stuffed lamb or beanie baby lamb Bow and arrow or slingshot Small serving bowl WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Tell the story using the children to dramatize the following scenes: 1. The angel making the announcement to Rebekah that she was going to give birth to twins. Include the message that the younger of the twins would receive the birthright. 2. Rebekah holding her twin babies 3. Jacob holding the lamb, Esau holding the bow and arrow or slingshot 4. Rebekah planning with Jacob how to deceive Isaac 5. Jacob receiving the birthright blessing from Isaac 6. Esau returning and finding out that Jacob has already been blessed with the birthright 7. Jacob having to leave home GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE STEW Materials needed: Construction paper Scissors Black marker Bibles Tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Draw the following vegetables on construction paper with the black marker. Draw one for each child. Draw them far enough apart that they can be cut apart. The children will actually cut each of their own vegetables out. On brown construction paper draw potato shapes. On red construction paper draw tomato shapes. On green construction paper draw celery shapes and green pepper shapes. On white construction paper draw onion shapes. On orange construction paper draw carrot shapes. On black construction paper make each child an iron kettle with a pocket on the back that will hold the vegetables. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Talk about the importance of always being honest with each other and God. Make an "honest" stew. Give each child an iron kettle and the vegetable shapes. After they cut out the shapes, have them drop them in their kettle one at a time repeating a word from the memory verse for each vegetable dropped in. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - THE "LYIN" THING Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Explain to the children that lying reminds you of a lion. A lion looks like a large house cat. You could almost be fooled into thinking you could touch and handle it. But it is a ferocious thing that will hurt you every time. Lying is like that. It looks harmless and easy, but it will eventually hurt you every time. Read the following statements to the children. If they think it's the "lyin' thing", they get down on the floor and crawl around roaring like a lion. If not, they remain in their chairs. 1. John lets his mother believe that he has done his job when he really hasn't even though he plans to do it later. 2. Sylvia remembers to pay her mother back a dollar she borrowed even though her mother never asks for it. 3. Donald tells his brother he broke his car even though he knows he's going to be really mad. 4. Sheila makes a mistake on the piano. She lets everyone think it is her partner Mary's fault because she is embarrassed. 5. Mary's mother tells her to turn the TV off. Mary wants to watch it longer. She tells her mother she's only been watching this show for about 10 minutes. What she doesn't tell her mother is that she's actually been in front of the TV for one hour. 6. Lou's new birthday toy breaks after he's only played with it for one hour. He is tempted to take it back to the store and exchange it for another one. He doesn't do that.
