******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, March 31, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: January 31, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, ABRAHAM OBEYS GOD ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: God was willing to give His Son and Jesus was willing to die to save us. Memory Verse: "Look the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" John 1:29, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - PUPPET PLAY Materials needed: (1) square felt for each child Wiggly eyes (two pairs for each child) Pipe cleaner Fabric glue/hot glue gun Scissors Fabric pieces WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut two mitten shapes out of each child's square piece of felt. Stitch or hot glue them together. (Stitching holds together longer) WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a mitten puppet. Help them glue wiggly eyes on both sides of the puppet and fabric pieces for clothes. Show them how to bend a small piece of pipe cleaner into a smile shape. Glue this on one side of the puppet. Bend another piece of pipe cleaner into a frown shape. Glue it to the other side of the puppet. (The hot glue will probably be necessary for the smiles and frowns) Read the following questions. If their answer is happy, they show their smiling-faced puppet. If the answer is sad, they show their sad-faced puppet. 1. How would you feel if your friend gave you a ticket to the fair, then they asked you to give it back because they wanted to take someone else? 2. How would you feel if someone gave you a really neat toy and your mom told you you had to give it back? 3. How would you feel if your sister gave you her jelly doughnut then took it back and ate it herself? 4. How would you feel if your friend said you were his best friend, then later he said, no, he wanted someone else to be his best friend? In our Bible story today, Abraham is very sad. God has given him a wonderful gift, a special son. Now it looks like Abraham will have to give him back. Let's see what happens. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - LAMB OF GOD MEMORY VERSE REMINDER Materials needed: (1) sheet of heavy card stock paper for each child A lamb pattern from a book, coloring book or pattern book Cotton Glue Black markers Black construction paper Scissors (1) brass fastener for each child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Xerox the lamb pattern for each child, enlarging it so it fills 3/4 of the 8 1/2" x 11" card stock paper. Cut them out. Print the memory verse across the bottom of each child's sheet of card stock paper. From the black construction paper cut out one black ear for each child's lamb (make the long, hanging down-type of ear) WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Explain to the children why Jesus is referred to as the Lamb of God. Give each child a piece of card stock paper, some cotton, some glue, one brass fastener, a black marker an ear and a lamb. 1. Have them glue the lamb pattern to the card stock paper. 2. Have them color the legs of the lamb black and the muzzle black. 3. Glue cotton on the body, neck and head of the lamb. 4. Adhere the ear to the side of the lamb's head with the brass fastener. Practice saying the verse and holding up the picture as it is repeated. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - OBEDIENCE CHARADES Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Tell the children that there are other examples of people in the Bible who loved God. They loved Him so much they did what He asked even when they couldn't understand why. Act out the following scenarios adding words and clues when necessary to help the children guess who you're portraying. 1. Noah building the ark and preaching 2. Moses leading the children of Israel to the Promised Land 3. Joshua and the wall of Jericho coming down 4. Gideon preparing his army for battle against the Midianites 5. The disciples fishing out on the lake in the middle of the day When God asks us to do something we don't understand or something hard, He will help us do it if we just say, "yes" and begin. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - WILL YOU DO IT? GAME Materials needed: None WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children line up in a horizontal line across the back of the room. This game is similar to Mother- May-I. Instead of taking turns all the children listen to your question and respond with, "Yes, I do". You then issue the command and they all may respond. In this game everyone will be a winner when they reach you. (Adjust the commands according to your room size, so that they can reach you by the time you've finished asking the questions.) 1. Mother asks you to turn the TV off. Will you get up and do it without saying, "wait"? (You may take 3 baby steps forward) 2. Teacher asks you to stop talking in class when she's talking. Will you stop talking? (You may take 4 little hops forward) 3. Big brother asks you not to play in his room while he is at school. Will you stay out of his room? (You may take 1 giant step forward) 4. Grandmother tells you eating cookie dough is bad for you. Will you keep your fingers out of the mixing bowl when she's not looking? (You may take 2 scissor steps forward) 5. Daddy tells you to come straight home from school and not stop for any reason. Will you go straight home even though your friend calls from his house to come see his new kittens? (You may take 3 side-winder steps forward) Remind the boys and girls that often we have to obey even though we can't understand the reason for it. Only Jesus can help us do that. When someone asks you to do something and you feel like saying, "no" say a prayer for Jesus to help you.
