******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, February 17, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: January 31, 2001 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, THE FIRST RAINBOW ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Noah and his family thanked God for His protection. Memory Verse: "I have set my rainbow in the clouds." Gen. 9:13, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - RAINDROP MOBILE Materials needed: (2) sheets of poster board Cotton Plastic needles Yarn Glue Scotch tape WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Cut out a large cloud from one of the poster boards. (It should be as large as the poster board.) Punch 40 holes in it big enough for a plastic needle to go through. Cut out 40 teardrop shapes from the other poster board. Punch a hole in the top of each teardrop shape. Cut 40 pieces of yarn varying in length from 12" to 24". Tie one yarn strand to the top of each teardrop shape. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: The children are going to make a raindrop mobile. Give them each teardrop shapes. Have them thread the yarn through a plastic needle and stick the needle up through a hole in the cloud shape. Remove their plastic needle and return it to them while you tape the end of the yarn to the cloud shape. Keep counting the "raindrops" as they are added on to the cloud shape. When all 40 are on the cloud shape tell the children that 40 is the number of days it rained before the flood from our story last week was finished. For 40 days big raindrops fell to the earth. Glue the cotton to the top of the cloud to cover the taped yarn ends. If possible, hang the cloud over the children's heads while the Bible story is being reviewed. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - UMBRELLA PASS AROUND Materials needed: An umbrella Bibles Piano player or cassette recorder and pre-recorded music WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Show the children where the memory verse is found in the Bible. Have them stand in a circle. Open up the umbrella and give it to one of the children in the circle. As the music plays the children are to pass the umbrella around the circle. When the music stops, whoever is holding the umbrella repeats the memory verse. Continue this activity until all children have had an opportunity to say the verse. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - GOD'S LOVE T-SHIRT Materials needed: 1 white T-shirt for each child (Ask parents to send one if your budget doesn't allow for this) 2-3 sponges Blue fabric paint Fabric crayons 2-3 paper plates Black fabric paint Aprons, trash bags, or old shirts (one for each child) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) On each child's white T-shirt, print the words, I AM IN GOD'S LOVE AND CARE with the black fabric paint. (If you cannot get the T-shirts ahead of class time, save this step until last, the children will not be able to take the shirts home until next Sabbath anyway.) Cut the sponges up into cloud shapes of various sizes. Draw a rainbow on the front of each T-shirt. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: The children will make a shirt to wear that will remind them of God's love and care for them. Make sure and provide old shirts, trash bags, or aprons to cover their Sabbath clothes. Using the fabric crayons, have them color the rainbow in correct order. (Working down from the top - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet) I would not recommend fabric paints for the rainbow, most Kindergarten children are not able to use them well enough for that precise of a job. Put blue fabric paint on paper plates and have the children dip the cloud sponges in the paint and dab them all over the rest of the front of the T-shirt. Leave the shirts in the classroom until next week. Put names on the inside tags. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - THANK-YOU JESUS CARDS Materials needed: Crayons (one red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet color for each child) (1) rubber band for each child (1) sheet of heavy white card stock paper for each child WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Sharpen all the crayons. Bind each child's six crayons together with the rubber band. (Make sure all the tips are together so when the child writes with them all the colors are shown evenly.) On each child's sheet of paper in large cursive letters write the words, THANK YOU, JESUS. Do not write the letters too close together. The children will be able to trace over them better if they are further apart. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Talk with the children about the things they can thank Jesus for. Give them a bundle of crayons. Have them trace over the letters on their sheet of paper by following the paths with the crayon bundle. The rainbow lettering will help them remember God's love and protection of Noah and his family. God wants to show us His love and care each day too.
