******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, January 20, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, JESUS' FAVORITE DAY ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: Sabbath reminds us of Jesus and Creation. Memory Verse: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." Ex. 20:8, KJV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - GETTING READY FOR A SPECIAL DAY Materials needed: Party goods such as: Tablecloth, plates, cups, napkins, hats, gift-wrapped box Fruits (various fresh fruits as in season) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children help you prepare for a celebration by setting a party table. Talk about how much more fun a celebration is when you think about it and plan it. As you eat fruit together at the party table talk about the weekly Sabbath celebration and things that can be done to plan ahead for it. (Plan a special meal or dessert; plan a special worship; decorate the table in a special way; make a special craft or treat to share with someone on Sabbath etc.) GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - SABBATH SCRAPBOOK Materials needed: One scrapbook for each child (Manilla folders with pockets, stapled together would work; the scrapbook should have 6 pages) Markers Plain white sheets of paper Colors Brown grocery bag (one for each child) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) If you buy scrapbooks for each child, make a pocket on each page by stapling a half sheet of heavy card stock paper to the front of each page. If you use manilla folders, they already have pockets. On the front of each scrapbook print in block letters the following title: MY SABBATH SCRAPBOOK. On each page print the following titles above the pockets at the top of the page: Sabbath in nature Sabbath meals or treats Sabbath friends Sabbath sharing Sabbath stories or songs Sabbath fun On the brown grocery bags print the words, MY SABBATH COLLECTION BAG WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Give each child a Sabbath scrapbook. Have them color in the block letters on the cover. Show them each page in their scrapbook. Explain to them that they are going to fill the pockets with things they find or do special on Sabbath. Older Kindergartners can draw a picture on each pocket that illustrates the words above the pocket. Give them each a brown grocery bag. Read the words on it. When they get home today, they are to look for special things to put in their bags to bring back to Sabbath school to put in their Sabbath scrapbook. The items can be things they collect at home in their own backyard or on a walk. They can be items they bring from home like a storybook or cassette they listened to. Anything that reminds them of Jesus that made their Sabbath special they are to bring back and put in their scrapbook. If it is a special person that comes over, they have a grown-up write that person's name on a paper to put in their scrapbook. Or they can draw a paper figure and give it a name to put in their book. After 4-6 weeks look through the Sabbath scrapbooks remembering the special days and give them to the children to take home. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - MEMORY VERSE SONG Materials needed: Music for the tune of Arky, Arky Piano player or cassette recorder WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Practice singing the memory verse to the tune of Arky, Arky. Follow the example below: The Lord Told Noah Remember the Sabbath To Build Him An Arky Arky To Keep it Holy Holy The Lord Told Noah Remember the Sabbath To Build Him An Arky Arky To Keep it Holy Holy Make It Out Of Make It Special, Gopher Barky Barky Tell the story About Children Of The Lord Jesus and His love CHORUS: So rise and shine And give God the glory, glory Rise and shine And give God the glory, glory Sabbath tells the special story about Jesus and His love WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Teach the children the song. Have them march around the room singing the verse. When the chorus is sung, they squat, then jump up into the air with arms raised on the "glory, glory" part. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - SABBATH STEW Materials needed: Large bath towel or large box (big enough for children to get into or on together) WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Put the large bath towel or large box in the center of the room. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Ask the children if they know what is in stew? Lots of vegetables all mixed together in a broth or gravy. Today we will make a Sabbath stew. We will make it in the box or on the towel. (whichever you have chosen to use) Each of the children will be an ingredient for the stew. To get into the Sabbath stew pot, they are to think of something they could do on Sabbath that would be a special reminder of Jesus and creation. When all the children are in the pot, the Sabbath stew is finished. The activity can be repeated as many times as desired.
