******************************************************* Title: Kindergarten Sabbath School Program, January 6, 2001 From: NAD Children's Ministries (author: Lisa Seeders) Date Completed: December 15, 2000 Abstract: Activities to use in place of program helps to teach the lesson, THE EARTH MADE BEAUTIFUL ******************************************************* Lesson Aim: God's love shows through His creation. Memory Verse: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Gen. 1:1, NIV GETTING THEIR ATTENTION - FINDING THE BEGINNING Materials needed: Yarn - One 10 yard strand for each child Masking tape Pen WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Take each child's 10 yard strand and wind it around in a maze pattern on the floor. Have all the strands cross over and around each other. Tape one end of each strand to the floor. On the tape write a number. On one of the strands make sure and write the #1 on the tape. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have the children begin at the opposite end from the taped end of their strand and walk their way around the yarn to the taped end. We are looking for the strand that represents the beginning, the place where everything starts. When the child with the strand marked #1 arrives at the end, the activity is over. Talk about beginnings. What is the beginning of the day? (When the sun comes up) What is the beginning of a song? (When the tune starts) In our Bible story today we are going back to the very beginning of our world. The time and place where God started everything. GO STRAIGHT INTO THE BIBLE STORY. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - CALENDAR STORY Materials needed: Plain calendar page (with squares marked off for the days of the week; one for each child) Markers Pencil WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) Make dot numbers for each day of the week in the calendar squares for the children to trace. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: 1. Children trace the numbers in the squares. 2. As you review the Bible story have the children color the first square under Sunday yellow. 3. Draw a cloud in the first square under Monday. 4. Draw a tree or flower in the first square under Tuesday. 5. Draw a star, sun and moon in the first square under Wednesday. 6. Draw a fish and bird in the first square under Thursday. 7. Draw a stick figure and an animal in the first square under Friday. You don't need to elaborate on the 5th and 6th days because they will be covered in the Bible story next week. GETTING INTO SCRIPTURE - CREATION CHARADES Materials needed: Bibles Dice WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN DO: Have a volunteer throw the dice. Everyone pretends they are whatever was created on the day shown by the number on the dice. ACTING ON SCRIPTURE - GIFT BAGS Materials needed: Small gift bags or brown paper bags (enough for each child to have one) Candle (one for each child) Hanging paper or cardboard air freshener Small package of flower or herb seeds Glow in the dark stars WHAT THE TEACHER DOES: (To prepare ahead) There are no advance preparations necessary. WHAT THE CHILDREN TO: All the things that the children will put into their gift bag represent gifts God has given us through creation. Have each child pack a gift bag to share with others. The bag can be given to all one person explaining what each item represents, or shared among several. Candle - Represents God's gift of light Air freshener - represents God's gift of fresh air and aroma Seeds - Represent God's gift of green life and vegetation Stars - Represent God's gift of lesser lights to rule the night The children can decorate the outside of the bag as desired and as time permits.
